Tottenham missed a golden chance last weekend to go within three points of top position in the English Premier League. On Thursday morning Australian time, Spurs get one last roll of the dice when they visit arch-rivals Chelsea.

 

Spurs, Chelsea Both See Season Slipping Away

Spurs are the only team still in a realistic position to challenge Liverpool or Manchester City for the EPL title. On the weekend, they made their job a whole lot harder with a 2-1 loss at Burnley. Liverpool’s scoreless draw at Manchester United put Liverpool on 66 points, one ahead of Man City and six ahead of Spurs with 11 games remaining.

Chelsea’s league match against Brighton was postponed due to their participation in the EFL Cup final. Maurizio Sarri’s side saw their chance of a trophy slip away when they went down to Man City on penalties. More than anything, the match will be remembered for Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga refusing Sarri’s orders to leave the field so reserve keeper Willy Caballero could come in for the penalty shootout.

Chelsea are in a tight battle with Arsenal and Manchester United for the fourth and final Champions League spot. A loss to Spurs could spell the end of their Europe dreams.

It’s fair to say Sarri will put Caballero in goals against Spurs after Kepa’s tantrum. This may have been the right move anyway given that Chelsea have conceded 12 goals in their past four EPL games. Tottenham are averaging more than two goals per game this season and have scored in 16 of their last 17 league outings.
