The Sydney Roosters play host to the Penrith Panthers at the Allianz Stadium on Friday evening in what is clearly the game of the weekend between two in-form teams.

The Roosters come into the game sitting 6th in the Premiership table, four points shy of the top, on the back of an 18-16 win over a brave Newcastle Knights outfit at McDonald Jones Stadium last week.

The Panthers are joint leaders with St. George Illawarra Dragons, but with a points’ difference of 110 against the Dragons 111 keeping them just off the summit.  They are themselves on a four-game winning streak, although they also had to dig deep in securing the points last time, when a clutch field-goal from halfback Nathan Cleary sealed a 23-22 come-from-behind victory for against the Canberra Raiders at the GIO Stadium.  

In terms of team news, the Roosters make just one change to the 17 which beat the Newcastle Knights, with Mitch Aubusson named to start and Siosiua Taukeiaho going back to the bench. Three of their four Origin stars, fullback James Tedesco, centre Latrell Mitchell and prop Dylan Napa all feature, but Boyd Cordner remains out.

For the Panthers, Viliame Kikau is out with a knee injury, so Jack Hetherington replaces him on the interchange.  Their four Origin stars, Nathan Cleary, James Maloney, Tyrone Peachey and Reagan Campbell-Gillard all feature.

It was a tight encounter when these teams last met in Game Week 3 last season, with the Roosters running out 14-12 winners at the Penrith Stadium.  It would come as no surprise were a similarly closely fought game to be on the cards on this occasion too.

The match result NRL betting odds certainly sees little between the teams, with the Roosters being 10/11 (1.91) with bet365 and the Panthers on offer at 117/100 (2.17) with Unibet.  The draw, which certainly isn’t out of the question, is available at 20/1 (21.00) with bet365.
