Liverpool v Napoli Group C UEFA Champions League Preview and Betting Tips

The sixth and final matchday in the UEFA Champions League group stage takes place Wednesday and Thursday morning Aussie time. With dead rubbers galore in some of the groups, most of the excitement will centre on Group C, where Liverpool, PSG, and Napoli are all competing for the two places in the knockout rounds.

Champs League: The Equation

 Group C looks like this heading into Wednesday’s fixtures: Napoli, 9 points, PSG, 8, Liverpool, 6, Red Star Belgrade, 4.

Should PSG win at Red Star, Liverpool would need a 1-0 win or a 2-goal win to overtake Napoli and progress to the next round. If PSG only manage a draw at Red Star, a Liverpool win, regardless of the margin, would still be enough to see them knock Napoli out of the tournament on goal difference. If PSG unexpectedly lose, then Napoli are guaranteed qualification but Liverpool would still need to win to knock out PSG.

Online bookmaker Neds has PSG as a 1.16 favourite and Red Star (now referred to as Crvena Zvezda) a 15.00 underdog. Liverpool are a clear favourite against Napoli, with Palmerbet offering 1.57 on last year’s runner-up and 5.00 on the away team.

 Liverpool have had a split personality this Champions League season, with the Reds winning both games at Anfield and losing all three at home. Liverpool opened their campaign with a 3-2 win over PSG and backed it up with a 4-0 home win over Red Star, scoring twice in the first half on both occasions. Napoli’s away form has been so-so, with the Italians settling for a 0-0 draw at Red Star and a 2-2 draw at PSG.

Given the Reds’ home form and what’s at stake for them here, it’s easy to envision them scoring at least a couple of goals. We’re tempted by Unibet’s offer of 1.50 on Liverpool to score in the first half, and 2.23 on a total of two goals or more in the first half.
