Essendon vs Collingwood - AFL Betting Tips 25-04-2019
April 23, 2019
The traditional Anzac Day match between Essendon and Collingwood is shaping up as the biggest in years. With both sides part of a logjam of 10 teams on three wins and two losses, the stakes could not be higher on Thursday.
Essendon v Collingwood Preview
After a disastrous 0-2 start to the season, Essendon have exploded, winning three games in a row by an average of 41 points. The Bombers appear to have been one of the quickest teams to have adapted to the new 6-6-6 rules. In the past few weeks, they have used their pace to move the ball from defence to attack quickly and easily, creating scoring opportunities. The Bombers are working well as a team, and are second in the league for goal assists behind Geelong.

Collingwood have had mixed success with their traditional keepings-off game style. The Pies are averaging 117 marks per game, a whopping 10 ahead of the next best team, and are second for disposals per game. Collingwood ran Brisbane ragged last week, and it will be interesting to see how their game style fares against the Bombers. Essendon coach John Worsfold will no doubt spend time watching videos of Collingwood’s losses this year to Geelong and West Coast.
Essendon v Collingwood Betting Tips
Collingwood beat Essendon twice last year, including a 49-point thrashing on Anzac Day. The Pies are still the more highly rated team, but it’s hard to see them having it all their way against the Bombers. Collingwood are the rightful favourites, but good value can be found in spread betting. We like bet365’s offer of a 12.5-point head start for Essendon.
Anzac Day has seen some great individual performances, and another player will have his name etched on the Anzac Day Medal this year. Collingwood’s Jordan De Goey is made for the big stage, and PointsBet is paying 6.50 for him to be named Anzac Day Medallist on Thursday.
Five of the best from the win against Brisbane.
