Brisbane Lions v Collingwood - AFL Betting Tips 18-04-2019
April 17, 2019
The AFL had a lot of foresight when it scheduled the Brisbane Lions to play Collingwood on a Thursday night. The Lions may have lost last week, but they absolutely deserve to share round five top billing with last year’s runner-up.
Brisbane Lions v Collingwood AFL Preview
Brisbane’s scintillating start to the season finally came to an end against Essendon in round four. The Lions will be happy to return to the Gabba on Thursday, where they’ve so far enjoyed wins over reigning premiers West Coast and finals contenders Port Adelaide. The Lions are the only team ranked top four in the AFL for both inside 50s (57 per game) and goal accuracy (52.8%).

Collingwood scraped past the Western Bulldogs for their second win of the year, but coach Nathan Buckley would be concerned with his team’s clearance work. Pies ruck Brodie Grundy won the hit outs 58-6, but it took until the final quarter for his team to start winning the clearances. The Pies will likely fly to Brisbane without injured wingman Chris Mayne. Things could get even tougher if Dayne Beams doesn’t get up in time to play his old team.

The All-Australian won 87.9% of the hit-outs in the match. No one else in the @AFL era has recorded above 77.8% (via @sirswampthing).

Brisbane Lions v Collingwood Betting Tips
This might be the most anticipated Brisbane-Collingwood match since the Lions beat the Pies in the 2002 and 2003 grand finals. In our opinion, this match could go either way, and anyone thinking of tipping the Lions should jump on the 2.45 being offered by bet365.
Brisbane have the highest points scored and highest points conceded of all the teams in the top eight. Collingwood are ranked #4 for points scored and #2 for points conceded among the current top eight. These teams should beat the over/under points total, which Neds has set at 169.5 points. With that said, the weather forecasts are showing a chance of rain for Brisbane on Thursday night, which would make scoring a little bit tougher.
