Australia v Peru

The Socceroos may not have their chances of making it to knockout stages of the World Cup in their own hands but they do at least have a chance.

Bert van Marwijk always knew that making it out of Group C was going to be a big ask. The bookies agreed with some suggesting that Australia were the favourites to finish bottom of the pile but the battling point against Denmark has given some hope.

Socceroos to Do Their Part and Defeat Sorry Peru

Peru have won many fans during the 2018 World Cup. Although some fell in love with the Peruvian kit, many more have taken to the positive approach shown by Ricardo Gareca’s men.

Unfortunately for their fans, new and old, Tuesday’s match against Australia is to be Peru’s final outing in Russia. They’ve been eliminated due to two 1-0 losses so there really is only pride left to be played for.

There is much more at stake for the Socceroos.

The problem for Bert van Marwijk is that Australia’s chances of qualifying will be over if Denmark secure just a point against France.

The positives are that France are keen to beat Denmark and stay top of Group C and that the Socceroos have shown enough in Russia to suggest that they can get the big win they need. Peru are also apparently worried about the strength of this Australia side.

Australia’s goal difference is two goals worse than Denmark and it’s that gap they’ll need to overturn to secure their place in the round of 16.

We’re not sure whether Australia will qualify but we do think they’ll be able to at least do what is required of them. Therefore, a bet on Australia to win looks good value at $3.40 with William Hill.

Can Australia Take Heart from Czech Republic Win?

Whatever happens in Russia, Bert van Marwijk’s time in charge of Australia will only be a short one. The highlight of his spell – at least in terms of the quality of the Australian performance – was the Socceroos’ 3-0 win over the Czech Republic.

Australia controlled that friendly game throughout with Aaron Mooy pulling the strings in central midfield. Mooy should see plenty of the ball against Peru and will surely create chances for the Socceroos’ attacking players.

Peru may have only conceded twice so far but their defence isn’t exactly watertight so we think Australia will have some joy in front of goal. At odds of $2.10, a bet on over 2.5 goals should pay out nicely.

If you fancy Australia to really use that Czech Republic win as a template at the Fisht Olympic Stadium, it may be worth betting on the 3-0 Australia correct score which is available at $41 with bookmaker.com.au

Will Cahill Rise to the Occasion and Be the Hero Again?

Having mulled over the options for weeks, van Marwijk picked an Australia squad with a mix of youth and experience. It’s fair to say that Tim Cahill is very much at the experience end of the scale at 38.

Cahill has yet to get onto the pitch in Russia but there are many Socceroos fans who believe he remains the man for the big occasion.

He’s made a career out of scoring poachers’ goals and Cahill’s killer instinct could be exactly what Australia need, especially given that their finishing has been less than stellar so far during the World Cup.

Cahill should get his chance to shine so back him to score anytime at $3.65 with Unibet.
