Richmond v Collingwood Preview
Richmond will have last year’s shock prelim loss to Collingwood on their minds when they take on their arch-rivals at the G on Thursday night. The Tigers were the only one of last year’s preliminary finalists to win in round one, defeating Carlton by 33 points. One of the biggest positives for Richmond was the spread of goalkickers, with new recruit Tom Lynch, Toby Nankervis, and Jack Higgins all kicking three. On the downside, star full back Alex Rance did his ACL and the Tigers will struggle to find a replacement.

Collingwood headed into this season as second to Richmond in AFL premiership odds, and their first-up loss to Geelong was a surprise. The Pies will come into round two with a similar side to the one that beat Richmond to make last year’s grand final. Taylor Adams will be the only noticeable player missing, but the addition of another gun mid in Dayne Beams should more than make up for his absence.

Richmond v Collingwood Betting Tips
There’s little to separate these teams in the betting odds, underlying how difficult it is to predict a winner. Collingwood are slight 2.02 underdogs at Unibet. The Pies only won three of 10 games last year where they started the underdog. However, Rance’s absence is a massive blow for Richmond, especially given what Pies forward Mason Cox did to the Tigers in last year’s prelim. We’re tipping Collingwood.
Last week saw the lowest-scoring round one since 1965. Time will tell whether the AFL’s new 6-6-6 rules help open up scoring, but for now it’s a safe bet to take Neds’ 1.84 odds on a match total of 173.5 points or less.
