The Race’s Recent History

Great Gallopers such as ‘Lonhro and ‘More Joyous’ have triumphed in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes since the start of the Millennium; while ‘Grand Armee’ won it back to back in 04/05. Last year’s race had a ripping finish with four year old New Zealand thoroughbred ‘It’s A Dundeel’ claiming victory by just three quarters of a length. While only one three year old has won the race in the past 30 years. Jockey Damien Oliver has ridden the victor of the 2000 metre Group One four times and he’ll be hoping for a five star performance on outsider ‘Happy Trails’ on Saturday.

The Contenders

The Queen Elizabeth Stakes is usually a tough race to find a winner and the 2015 edition is certainly no different. ‘Contributer’ is a deserved favourite due to his simply irresistible Autumn form. The five year old is aiming for a fourth successive set weight-for-age victory, and a third Group One win this campaign. ‘Contributer’ will wear the number 1 cloth but will he be first past the post? Chris Waller wins Group Ones for fun and he saddles up the class horse in the race. 2014 Cox Plate winner ‘Adelaide’ is first up and although its trials didn’t set the world on fire don’t be surprised to see the four year old feature in the finish. ‘Criterion’ and the highly spruiked Japanese horse ‘To The World’ will also fancy their chances; though you could make a case for most of the runners, in what looks like one of the strongest races to be run in the country for some time.
