Warwick Stakes Money Back Special On Sportsbet
August 20, 2014
We could be forgiven for renaming the 2014 Warwick Stakes the Waller Stakes with the Sydney based trainer Chris Waller dominating the field. Waller’s 6 horses make up more than half the field for Saturday’s Group 2 at Royal Randwick, with 11 in all set to run the 1400 metre race.
Sportsbet have gone wild for Waller. The Australian Bookmaker will give your money back if the horse you back runs second to any of Waller’s 6 runners. The offer only applies to your first bet on race 6 at Randwick with a max refund of up to $100. Win bets will be refunded as will win portions of each way bets, however any bets made over the phone are excluded.
Weather will be a contributing factor to who’s first past the post in this one. In fact Waller’s numbers may be reduced early with ‘Boban’ unlikely to run on a heavy track. ‘Messene’ is the early favourite with Sportsbet after excelling in the Group 2 Missile stakes where he finished 2nd to Sweet Idea over 1200 metres. But the Team Hawkes-trained gelding may slip up again in what’s likely to be another wet Randwick track on Saturday. Punters saw him struggle in similar conditions in the Doncaster Mile in April.
Messene’s a slight favourite ahead of ‘Weary,’ one of Waller’s main chances. Ironically Weary should be one of the fittest horses in the race and wet conditions haven’t bothered him in the past. In summing up his 6 runners Waller’s words were “Weary is very well placed.” He’s also has 2 dead set ducks in this one, ‘Sacred Falls’ and ‘Royal Descent’s wet track form is impressive. They proved that when they quinellad the Doncaster mile. Sacred Falls is yet to be beaten on heavy ground while Royal Descent has finished first, second and third over three runs in the same conditions. Punters have already shown early interest in the bottom weight Royal Descent, and more money may come for the pair closer to race-day.
Waller’s other runners ‘Hawkspur’ and ‘My Kingdom Of Fife’ aren’t likely to steal the limelight off his bright hopes with the latter opening at triple figures on Sportsbets race market. ‘Tiger Tees’ handles the wet well and could feature at the finish in a classy weight for age field. While ‘Criterion,’ ‘Dissident’ and ‘Laserhawk’ are at double digits.
Sportsbets refund offer if you run second to one of Wallers horses is valid up till race time and the experts and astute punters may wait till late with the conditions crucial in picking the winner. Wet weather is expected in Sydney through to Saturday but hopefully it’ll be raining money for punters after the Waller Stakes…. Sorry Warwick Stakes.
