Tatt's Tiara Betting Preview
June 18, 2013
The Tattersall’s Tiara takes place this Saturday at Eagle Farm racecourse and is the final Group 1 race of the Brisbane Winter Carnival, we cast our eye over the leading fancies for the Winter Stakes.
Pear Tart won this race for trainer John Thompson last year and in Peron he has another fine filly. Peron is yet to race in Group 1 company but success in a the listed Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich last weekend suggests ther may be more to come from her and at 8.00 with Sportsbet she could be considered a value bet in this highly competitive affair.
In order to succeed at Eagle Farm, Peron will have to fend off stiff opposition from proven performers Streama and Red Tracer. The latter is slightly favoured for the 1400 metre gallop at 4.80 with Sportsbet and trainer Chris Waller will be bidding to better a fourth here last year after winning the the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes a key lead-up race for the second consecutive year.
Available at 5.00 for the Tattersall’s Tiara, Streama has gone close in big races this season such as the Queen of the Turf Stakes, Doncaster Mile and was third home in the Stradbroke Handicap, so it shouldn’t be long before she gets a head in front again. Stablemate to Streama and runner-up in this event last year is Skyerush who bids for a hat-trick following a pair of successes at Warwick Farm and can be backed at 9.00.
Also available at 9.00 is Steps In Time for trainer John O’Shea who has beaten both Streama and Red Tracer already this year, but will need to bounce-back from a laboured seventh in the Dane Ripper.
Risk Aversion can be backed at 11.00 for Saturday’s showpiece with nothing between Yosei, Arctic Flight and She’s Clean in the betting at 15.00 while Spirit Song is a 21.00 shot as the most likely outsider to have a say.
