A few Facts before you Bet

The Makybe Diva Stakes is a Group One weight-for-age race for all horses held over a distance of 1600 metres.

Competing jockeys Damien Oliver and Craig Williams have both won the race 3 times.

In the past 31 years only 4 Mares have won the Makybe Diva Stakes.

Only 2 favourites have won this event in the past 10 years.

4 Favourites haven’t managed to place since 2005.

Strong Field for the Makybe Diva Stakes

This year’s Makybe Diva Stakes is a quality field, with 10 Group One Winners set to start. BOBAN is chasing a sixth top level success and is around the $4.80 mark. The favourite is coming off his Memsie Stakes victory a fortnight ago. The Tony McEvoy trained ALPINE EAGLE is about $6. With just 7 career starts (4 wins and 3 places) it’s still new but very talented!

2013 Caulfield Cup winner FAWKNER is the class runner in the race. He finished second behind DISSIDENT in the event last year. He was first up that day and will be again on Saturday. The 8 year old’s also around $6 to go one better, as jockey Damien Oliver looks for his fourth Makybe Diva Stakes victory. Craig Williams is another after his fourth triumph in the race and he’s on board one at odds in VOLKSTOK’N’BARRELL. The 4 year gelding’s at double digits, but did run a solid Memsie Stakes and is yet to be defeated second up. The likes of ENTIRELY PLATINUM, RISING ROMANCE, HAPPY TRAILS and WEARY shouldn’t be discounted.
