Puissance De Lune Starts Campaign Favourite For PB Lawrence
August 13, 2013
Puissance de Lune heads the market for the PB Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield where he starts his campaign on Saturday.
The flashy grey is favourite to win the Group 2 race, formerly known as the JJ Liston Stakes, with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au opening Puissance De Lune $2.00 ahead of last year’s winner Second Effort at $6.50.
Puissance De Lune is being prepared for the Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup, for which he is also marked up as favourite. Jockey Glen Boss will follow the same path he embarked on with three-time Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva and the immortal So You Think.
Clinton McDonald trained Second Effort is already a multiple winner of Victoria’s biggest sprint and will attempt a second successive PB Lawrence Stakes following his victory 12 months ago.
The Peter Moody trained High Esteem, returning after a strong three-year-old season, is on the third line at $7.00, just ahead of the consistent Launay ($8.50) and Ajeeb ($9.00).
“There is massive interest in Puissance de Lune’s return to racing. He’s the early Melbourne Cup favourite, had minor surgery before his spell and has huge wraps. By all reports he’s come back better than ever and if that is the case he should beat these,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.
Puissance de Lune is currently at $7.00 to win the Melbourne Cup with sportsbet.com.au, ahead of Fiorente ($11) and Sea Moon ($13).
