Table-topping Sydney FC welcome Brisbane Roar to the Allianz Stadium on Saturday evening.

Although still well clear at the top of the A-League table, the Sky Blues form has suffered of late.  That is largely due to their involvement in the AFC Champions League, where results haven’t gone according to plan.

A 1-1 draw with Kashima Antlers on Wednesday in Japan was a decent result, but Sydney remain bottom of their group with two points from four matches and face almost certain elimination.

It’s now just one win in six matches in all competitions for Sydney as a result.  Their last domestic league game was a 2-1 loss at Newcastle Jets a fortnight ago, but it’s a defeat that still leaves them eight points clear at the top of the table.

With five games remaining, Roar still need to make up four points on the sixth placed Adelaide United to have any hope of making the end of season play-offs.  If they lose at the Allianz Stadium and results elsewhere go against them this weekend, they could face a near impossible task of securing a playoff spot.

Brisbane have struggled for consistency, although they have now won four of their last six league games to keep them within touching distance of the top six.  Their last game was also two weeks ago, when a goal from French midfielder Éric Bauthéac just before the interval was enough to claim a 1-0 win at home to Adelaide.

In truth, it’s Roar’s record on the road that has impressed of late, with them winning four of their last five away from home.

Despite both Sydney’s current woes and Brisbane’s recent run of form, it has to be remembered that Sydney have again been the dominant domestic force this season and are still to lose at home in the A-League since April 2016 – that’s an unbeaten run of 27 matches.

Sydney have won six of their last eight league games on home turf, with all six victories featuring over 2.5 goals in the game.  A repeat against Brisbane is offered at 11/10 (2.10) with Centrebet and looks worth a bet.
