2015 Queensland Oaks is a Little Different

Traditionally the Queensland Oaks race is held at Eagle Farm but the event will be contested at Doomben on Saturday with Brisbane’s other race track under construction. The Race will also be 200 metres shorter than its usual 2400 metre distance. Somethings remain the same though, like the large number of runners, the field for the set-weight race for three-year-olds fillies is regularly near capacity. Will picking a winner be a tough task? The race has been difficult for punters since in the past decade with four of the past 11 winners starting at 16-1 or better. Tinto won the 2014 Queensland Oaks at around $7.

The Favourite

Favourite WINX is currently around the $2.70 mark to win the Queensland Oaks. She’s registered 5 wins from 11 starts and finished second a further 3 times. The filly won a Group 2 stakes race in Sydney during the autumn while she shattered her rivals on the Sunshine Coast in the Group 3 Guineas a fortnight ago after charging down the straight. The Chris Waller trained horse is a worthy favourite but she’s yet to run at Doomben or this distance. Jockey Hugh Bowman will hope to settle her towards the back of the field then fly home once more.
