Favourites aren't First in the Stradbroke Handicap

Picking the Stradbroke Handicap winner has proved difficult this past decade. Luxbet are helping punters out by giving their members something back if their horse runs 2nd or third in the Group One event.

The Queensland Winter Racing Carnival will produce its headline act on Saturday when the Stradbroke Handicap is contested in Brisbane. The race has a total prize money of $2,000,000. The event is traditionally run at Eagle Farm but construction on the track sees Doomben hosting the Group One in this year. The race will be ran over 1350 metres, 50 metres shorter than its usual distance. The prestige of winning however is as high as ever and that’s the same for punters, who are aiming to pick the race winner!

Luxbet’s Stradbroke Handicap Race Offer

5 Reasons not to fancy the Favourite

Handicap conditions and large fields often contribute to some stunning results in the Stradbroke Handicap.

In the past decade, the average price of the Stradbroke Handicap winner is $15.50.

BLACK PIRANHA is the only favourite to have won the race since 2005. He was victorious in 2009 and 2010; though the second time he was a 20-1 outsider.

In the past 10 years only 4 favourites have managed to place in the race.

The Stradbroke Handicap favourite has won just 6 times since 1983, while 14 horses have won at double figure odds.

2015 Stradbroke Handicap Field

The 2015 Stradbroke Handicap has 17 runners. Top weight BOBAN was triumphant in the traditional lead up race, storming home to win the Doomben 10,000 a fortnight ago. He’s at double figures to the double. CHARLIE BOY and GENERAL LIFE placed 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Doomben 10,000 and both will be in the mix again, especially at handicap conditions. Exciting Filly LUMOSTY has come into favouritism at around $5.50. She’ll carry just 50.5 Kg and is aiming for a third straight victory after strong wins against older horses in her most recent outings. Many in the field though aren’t without a chance, making this race tough to call. So wager with Luxbet and if you can’t quite pick the winner you’ll at least get something back if your runner manages to place.
