Criterion a Contender in the Prince Of Wales

Criterion is a contender for the Prince of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot on Wednesday but will he win?

After Australia was without a runner at Royal Ascot in 2014, 4 Aussie thoroughbreds will race during England’s 5 day spectacle starting next week. Luxbet have 2 specials on our Australian contingent which punters can have a crack if they don’t fancy betting on individual races. You can get $1.80 for at least one Australian horse to win a race or even money for none of them to be first past the post. Luxbet are also have a market for the exact number of wins by the Aussies. Zero is again $1.90, 1 victor is $2.30, 2 wins is $7.00 and a clean sweep is paying $51. Could Criterion be one of those winning when he contests the Prince of Wales Stakes on Wednesday?

Can Criterion Cause an Upset?

Criterion is a contender for the 2000 metre Group One Prince of Wales Stakes but such is the quality of the field he’ll likely jump just into double figures with the likes of current favourite Free Eagle, The Grey Gatsby and California Chrome the ones to beat. The 4 year old is a Group One winner already this year though, after taking out the Queen Elizabeth Stakes in dominant fashion at Randwick in April. His latest race was another strong Group One performance where he finished third in the QEII Cup at Sha Tin in Hong Kong. Both efforts were over the same distance he’ll run on Wednesday.

Chad in Charge

Craig Williams was the Jockey for Criterion’s last 2 races but he won’t be on board in the Prince of Wales Stakes with Owner Sir Owen Glenn instead opting for Chad Schofield to ride his runner. The tough choice was made after 21 year old Schofield took the reins during the horse’s trackwork at Ascot. Criterion took to the turf well in her gallop, in a positive sign ahead of the race.

‘Come on Criterion’ will be the cry from punters who put their money on him. So will you be whipping the horse home on Wednesday?
