Clarke Insists Australia Will Continue Their Dominance In The One-Dayers
January 07, 2014
After a cricketing master class returned The Ashes urn to the Southern Hemisphere, Australia will look to punish a demoralised England further still – as the One-Day series gets underway this Sunday.
The two sides will recommence their rivalry at the MCG less than one week after Michael Clarke and his men completed a thoroughly-deserved 5-0 Ashes series whitewash in Sydney.
And, unsurprisingly, the home side are clear favourites to complete a series double over England. Betstar are currently offering the best One-Day Series Winner prices all-round – as they have Australia at 1.44, England at 3.00 and the draw at 11.00.
Australia followed up a 3-0 Ashes defeat in England with a 2-1 One-Day win and – despite inflicting an even heavier Ashes defeat to their visitors this time round – the Australian captain has promised that his side will not repay the favour of allowing England a chance to recover their form in the upcoming One-Dayers.
Clarke told ABC: “The One-Day series is important for us to continue with the momentum we have. We found in the UK after losing to England it was an opportunity to turn things around and we did that there.
“We don’t want England to have that same success.”
However, one thing that will be missing from the Australian line-up for this series is Mitchell Johnson’s facial fuzz – as The Ashes Player of the Series shaved off his iconic moustache, following the 5-0 whitewash.
Also speaking to ABC News, Johnson said: “They say leave it on because it is my trademark… (but) I made a commitment to shave it at the end of the series.”
