CB Cox Stakes: Sportsbet Back Luckygray In Spite Of KTC Loss

Online bookmaker Sportsbet have still priced Luckygray as favourite for the CB Cox Stakes, even though he was unable to successfully defend his Kingston Town Classic title last weekend.

Online bookmaker Sportsbet have still priced Luckygray in top spot for the CB Cox Stakes, even though he was unable to successfully defend his Kingston Town Classic title last weekend.

The Perth thoroughbred went into that race with a 2013 Railway Stakes triumph already to his name, but he had anything but luck in last Saturday’s race – eventually finishing second after a poor start.

Despite that setback, Luckygray is still a 3.50 favourite with Sportsbet for the Group 2 race at Ascot on Saturday, December 21, while his arch-rival Mr Moet is priced close behind at 4.00 – after recovering from an outside barrier draw to finish fifth in last weekend’s feature race at Ascot.

Three-year-old Itsahymn claimed the biggest win of his career so far by pipping Luckygray to the 2013 Kingston Town Classic title, but he is only third favourite to emerge victorious at Ascot again and is priced at 5.00.

Rohan is priced at 7.00 after a strong third-place finish in Saturday’s race, but his disasterous luck with injuries could scupper any chance he has of heading the 2100 metres race and bringing home the $225,000 prize money.

Looking ahead to the CB Cox Stakes on December 21, a spokesperson for Sportsbet said: “Take nothing away from Ihtsahymn. He deserved his win, but Luckygray had no luck early in the Kingston Town.

“Ihtsahymn may not run in the Cox but, if he does, the top three in betting look as though they will fight it out.”
