Australia's Mitchell Johnson Tipped to Gain Ashes revenge over England

Ryan Harris believes Australian team-mate Mitchell Johnson can claim Ashes revenge on England when the series begins in Brisbane this week.

A rejuvinated Mitchell Johnson is being backed by team-mate Ryan Harris to exact some revenge on England, when the first Ashes test begins in Brisbane on Thursday.

Previous series between Australia and the old enemy have seen the left-arm fast bowler dropped (2009) and then ridiculed for his bowling by the travelling England “Barmy Army” (2010-11.)

However, the 32-year-old is back in fine form and – after missing the 3-0 Ashes loss in England earlier this year – he will be looking to make amends for past failings, starting at the Gabba later this week.

And Harris believes the Western Australia left-armer is more than capable of doing that – after getting “Back to his best” in recent months.

Speaking to ESPN Cricket Info, Harris said: “He hasn’t put too much pressure on getting back in (the Test squad.)

“He’s just wanted to get his game right, get his mind right, work on a few little technical things. He’s gone and done that and come back beautifully.

“Watching him bowl in the one-dayers in India – and speaking to Brad Haddin, who was talking about how quick they were coming through – he’s back to his best (and) he’s moving the ball a bit as well so, if he gets it right, he’s going to take a lot of wickets.”

The 34-year-old also stated that an all-firing Johnson could have a huge affect on the host side’s chances this winter.

Harris continued: “Bowling at that pace and speaking to the batters, no one likes to face it. If he gets it right we’re in good shape.”

If Harris is proved to be right, then it may be worth having a punt on Johnson to take the most Australian wickets this winter. Bet365 are offering the most generous odds so far, with thier price of 4.0 (at the time of writing.)

And should he hit the ground running straight away at The Gabba – a test venue that Australia are unbeaten at for 25 years – then Bet365 will pay out at 17.00 if Johnson is named man of the match.
