A-League Tips: Bet Adelaide United to secure victory with Over 2.5 Goals against Central Coast Mariners

A 2-1 defeat at Melbourne City last weekend means it’s now just a single point from a possible 12 for last season’s A-League champions and premiers, Adelaide United.

The visit of Central Coast Mariners, who are also winless to date and just a point better off going into this match, provides Guillermo Amor’s team their best chance yet to register their first victory of the campaign.

The Mariners secured a decent point away to Western Sydney Wanderers last weekend with a 1-1 draw, particularly having fallen behind after just two-minutes.  The Wanderers had the chances to win the match, but Mariners goalkeeper Paul Izzo made some decent saves and the team even had a few opportunities to win it themselves.

Having finished well adrift at the foot of the table last season and winning just three of their 27 matches over the course of the season, the Mariners could really do with the confidence boost of securing their first victory of the current season as soon as possible too.  You actually have to go all the way back to January for the last time the Mariners players went home with a win bonus.

Given the teams respective standings at the end of last season, it’s not surprising that the Reds won all three A-League meetings between the two last term.  The two matches at Coopers Stadium finished 3-1 and 4-2 in Adelaide’s favour, whilst the game at the Central Coast Stadium ended 3-2 to the visitors.  In two of those games Central Coast actually went in front and they were level in the other match until late on.

The best odds available on an Adelaide United victory are 9/20 (1.45), which has little attraction.  Based on last season’s results and the fact that the Mariners are conceding at a rate of over two goals per game this season to date, this looks like an ideal opportunity for Adelaide to claim a win and score a few goals.  Backing the home victory with Over 2.5 Goals in the match could be the way to go in this one.
