A-League Betting: Western Sydney Wanderers capable of beating Adelaide United to Nil

Western Sydney Wanderers are hosting last place Adelaide United, as part of their end-of-season push for the playoffs.

Recommended bet: Western Sydney Wanderers to ‘Win to Nil’ @ 23/10 (3.30) with Sportsbet

Western Sydney Wanderers welcome bottom-of-the-table Adelaide United to the Spotless Stadium on Saturday, with the Wanderers looking to maintain their push for the end of season playoffs.

With the top two in the A-League away and clear, the race for automatic qualification for the Final Series semi-finals is already largely done and dusted.

In addition, Perth Glory, Melbourne City and Brisbane Roar all look well set for the Elimination Finals, so leaving just one spot up for grabs which, as things stand, sees Western Sydney Wanderers in pole position.

Where things could get potentially difficult for Wanderers is that they (like Adelaide) are also currently involved in AFC Champions League action and could struggle to juggle the twin commitments.  They were away to Shanghai SIPG on Tuesday, so there have to be some doubts as to how much that will have taken out of them.

It’s been little short of a disastrous campaign for the Reds in their title defence and they have realistically been out of the running for a play-off place for weeks now.  They’ve won just three of their 21 A-League games this season and have little to play for besides pride over the remainder of the campaign.

Like the Wanderers, Adelaide are also currently in AFC Champions League action – it’s easy to forget that Adelaide beat Western Sydney Wanderers to win last season’s Grand Final.  They are also in China this week, where they face Jiangsu Suning on Wednesday, so giving them a day less to recover before the game with Wanderers.

Both these teams have struggled for goals this season, with Adelaide only finding the back of the net 17 times in total and only on six occasions on their travels.  They’ve not scored more than one goal in any of their 10 away matches in the A-League this term.

With the Wanderers having home advantage, greater incentive and an extra day’s rest, a home victory looks a fair bet in this game.  When taking into account Adelaide’s inability to score goals, a home ‘win to nil’ looks to be the value punt at 23/10 (3.30) here.
