A-League Betting: Under 2.5 Goals looks the bet between Central Coast Mariners v Newcastle Jets

With only 2 games remaining in the regular season, Central Coast Mariners host Newcastle Jets in a game that could have a major affect on which team finishes last.

Recommended bet: Under 2.5 Goals @ 11/8 (2.38) with bet365

With just two rounds of matches remaining in the regular season, Central Coast Mariners play host to Newcastle Jets at Central Coast Stadium in a game that could go a long way to deciding which team ends the season with the wooden spoon.

That’s because, with Adelaide United having embarked on something of a revival in recent weeks, this is now a game between the bottom two in the A-League going into the weekend’s fixtures.

Their respective positions at the foot of the table isn’t helped by current form in either case, with neither having anything resembling a decent run of results coming into this clash.

The Mariners are winless in their last six matches, during which time they’ve won just a solitary point (somewhat predictably from a 1-1 draw away to the Jets).  It’s a round that has seen them concede 16 goals in the process.

They had a particularly bad loss last weekend when, despite taking the lead just after the break, they were eventually beaten 5-1 by a Brisbane Roar side that didn’t score their opening goal until the 62nd minute.

The Jets form is even more alarming, with them having picked up just a couple of points from their last eight matches to drop from play-off candidates to being just two points off the foot of the table.

Worryingly their form seems to be getting worse, with their last four matches all ending in defeat and with them having scored just once whilst conceding 15 goals.

That might suggest that we should expect goals in this match, but although these struggling teams now have the worst two defensive records in the A-League, it’s worth noting that neither attack is particularly potent either, with only Adelaide having scored less league goals than either of these teams.

The two previous A-League meetings between the teams this season both took place at Newcastle’s McDonald Jones Stadium and both ended in 1-1 draws.

This could easily be just as tight and low-scoring, in what is unlikely to be a game of great quality and the 11/8 (2.38) available on Under 2.5 Goals with bet365 looks decent betting value.
