A place in the A-League Grand Final is up for grabs as Sydney FC and Perth Glory meet at the Allianz Stadium in the first semi-final on Saturday.

Sydney FC absolutely dominated the regular season, losing just once in 27 matches and accumulating a record 66 points in the process as they finished an incredible 17 points clear of 2nd placed Melbourne Victory.

Having finished 5th in the table, Perth were on the road in the Elimination Finals, but went to AAMI Park and beat the expensively assembled Melbourne City 2-0 with goals in the opening half hour from Diego Castro and Joel Chianese.  It was a well-deserved victory and could have been greater than the two-goal margin.

The results of the team’s three meetings in the regular season don’t offer much in the way of optimism for Glory, with Sydney having won all three comprehensively.

Sydney won 4-1 at the Allianz Stadium in November, then repeated the exact same scoreline a month later at nib Stadium.  The Sky Blues returned to the nib Stadium just over a month ago to inflict another defeat on Glory, this time 3-0.

There was even a 2-0 win in extra-time for Sydney in the last 16 of the FFA Cup at the BGC Stadium in Perth back in August for good measure.

Although Glory have been prolific in attack (their 53 goals scored in the regular season being second only to Sydney’s 55), conceding goals has been an issue throughout the campaign, with the 53 they leaked during the regular season being a total only matched by last placed Newcastle Jets.  By contrast, Graham Arnold’s team conceded just 12 goals.

Sydney come into the game on the back of six wins and a draw in their last seven matches, although Glory are on a good run of form themselves, having won their last three matches.

The Sky Blues biggest concern may be that this is a one-off game and they haven’t really had a must-win game in months.  Glory certainly has the firepower to get on the scoresheet, but a Sydney win and ‘BTTS’ could be the best A-League bet here.
