A-League Betting: Sydney FC value to claim another win at hapless Adelaide United

Bottom-of-the-table Adelaide United face runaway leaders Sydney FC on Boxing Day, with the Reds hoping that they can finally kick-start their campaign with a much-needed victory.

Despite winning the Premier’s Plate and the Grand Final after a slow start last season, Guillermo Amor’s team are showing little sign of lightning striking twice on that front.  The 2-1 defeat at Newcastle Jets last time out left them rooted to the foot of the table, with just six points and one win from 11 matches to date.

It had looked as though they had secured a point at the McDonald Jones Stadium but, having dominated possession and several clear cut chances themselves, they inexplicably seemed to lose focus in stoppage-time and allowed the Jets to claim the points.

By contrast, Sydney’s 4-1 win at Perth Glory’s nib Stadium last Saturday left Graham Arnold’s team seven points clear at the top and still to taste defeat in the A-League this term.  It was enough to convince the Sydney board to award Arnold a two-year contract extension.

In truth the win at Glory wasn’t quite as clearcut as the scoreline would suggest, with Sydney having to come from behind to secure victory and being grateful to goalkeeper Danny Vukovic for a number of fine saves.

It’s not just the league table and points tally that separates these two teams, with Sydney finding goals easy to come by and proving a difficult team to breakdown into the bargain.  A team that has conceded just five goals in 11 matches is going to fancy their chances of adding another clean sheet to the list against opposition that has mustered just 10 league goals all season.

In a turn-up for the books, the Sky Blues were held to a 0-0 draw by Adelaide at the Allianz Stadium a month ago, so there is at least some cause for optimism among the Adelaide faithful.

Everything points to a Sydney victory here in terms of this season’s form and the levels of confidence in the respective camps going into this game.  At odds of 11/10 (2.10) for a Sky Blues win, it’s the only result that you can back with a degree of confidence.
