It’s the Sydney Derby on Saturday, as Sydney FC play host to Western Sydney Wanderers at the Allianz Stadium in what promises to be an enthralling encounter.

Defending A-League Grand Champions Sydney have continued where they left off last season with consecutive wins against Melbourne Victory and Wellington Phoenix giving them maximum points after two games.  The 3-2 win over the Phoenix last weekend coming with the aid of two goals from Brazilian striker Bobô.

It’s also been a decent start for Wanderers who, making light of the departure of coach Tony Popovic on the eve of the new season, have taken four points from their opening games at home to Perth Glory (2-1) and Central Coast Mariners (2-2).  This will be an altogether tougher assignment though.

One factor in Wanderers good early season form has been the goals of Spanish striker Oriol Riera, with the former Deportivo La Coruna striker having netted in both league games to date and bagged a further four FFA Cup goals.

The Sky Blues only suffered a solitary A-League defeat throughout last season and that was a 1-0 loss at the ANZ Stadium in February, with veteran attacker Brendon Santalab scoring the only goal of the game.

It was honours even between the two teams over the course of last season, with Sydney romping home 4-0 in the first meeting of the campaign at the ANZ Stadium in October, before the Wanderers came away with a 0-0 draw at the Allianz Stadium in January.

As things stand the Wanderers are ranked third in the outright betting for the A-League, behind their city rivals and Melbourne Victory.  Even at this early stage of the campaign, this will be a major test of their title aspirations.

The formbook and any gulf in quality can often go out the window in derby games, but the Sky Blues will want to continue their 100% start to the campaign and gain revenge for the one blemish on last season’s record here.

Given home advantage and their understandable self-belief at present, they look worthy of a bet at 10/11 (1.91) with bet365 to secure a third straight win of the new season.
