A-League Betting Preview: Sydney FC a value bet to Win to Nil against Adelaide United
January 19, 2017
Recommended bet: Sydney FC to Win to Nil @ 15/8 (2.88) with bet365
A-League leaders Sydney FC play host to lowly Adelaide United at the Allianz Stadium on Friday, with Sydney looking to extend their 15-match unbeaten run this season.
There was a rare blip for the Sky Blues last weekend when they were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Western Sydney Wanderers in the Sydney Derby in front of over 40,000 fans at the Allianz Stadium, but they still have a healthy five-point lead over Melbourne Victory at the top of the table.
It was an almost equally unusual weekend for Adelaide too, as the defending Premier and Minor Premier champions secured only their second win of the campaign in beating Melbourne City 2-1. It was a result that took them off the foot of the table on goal difference and was a notable scalp, but this isn’t exactly the easiest game with which to follow it.
In the reverse fixture at Coopers Stadium on Boxing Day, the Sky Blues ran out comprehensive 4-0 victors and Sydney are strong favourites at a best price of 11/20 (1.55) with William Hill to repeat that result with another three points.
To give Adelaide some credit, they did hold Sydney to a goalless draw at the Allianz Stadium exactly a month earlier, but there’s undeniably a strong case for Sydney to win here.
However, the match odds offer little in the way of value, so the angle to take here could be for Sydney to ‘Win to Nil’.
A big part of Sydney’s success this term has been their superb defensive record, with just seven goals conceded in 15 matches to date. At home that translates to just three goals conceded in seven games.
By contrast, the Reds have had severe difficulty in finding the back of the net this term, having registered a league low of just 12 goals in 15 matches this season. On their travels it looks even worse, with just four goals scored in seven games.
That all suggests that Sydney should be capable of winning this game without conceding and backing them to Win to Nil at a very tasty 15/8 (2.88) with bet365 has plenty of appeal.
