It’s the final round of matches of the regular season in the A-League and Premiers’ Plate winners Sydney FC look to finish what has been a superb campaign on a high when they play host to bottom of the table Newcastle Jets.
The Sky Blues have been absolutely relentless in their domination of the A-League this season and go into their final game of the regular campaign with a remarkable 17-point lead over Melbourne Victory.
Their one loss of the season at Western Sydney Wanderers was a mere hiccup, with it being followed by five consecutive wins before last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Wellington Phoenix.
In addition, Sydney’s dominance is evident in their position as the league’s top scorers with 53 goals, whilst having conceded just 12 goals in 26 league games this term.
Meanwhile the Jets have scored a mere 28 goals and are goalless in their last four games. They’ve also conceded a league high of 51 goals. The Jets are ending the season in absolutely dire form, having lost their last five matches and taken just two points from a possible 27.
So, it really doesn’t bode well for the Jets at the Allianz Stadium and it’s incredibly difficult to make a case for anything besides a home win here. The only factor that could derail Sydney is complacency, but there’s been little sign of that throughout the season.
The Sky Blues were victorious in both the previous meetings between the teams this season at Newcastle’s McDonald Jones Stadium, winning 2-0 in both October and December. Indeed, Sydney have won each of the previous seven A-League meetings between the two teams and have kept a clean sheet in each of the last five.
In fact they’ve won 11 of the last 12 meetings in all competitions, with one draw. The Jets last win over the Sky Blues was way back in 2012.
There’s little value in backing Sydney to win this match at best odds of 1.29, but you can get some cracking value in backing them to ‘Win to Nil’ at 2.43 and that looks to be the best value bet to be on here.
