A-League Betting: Back Perth Glory to beat Central Coast Mariners with Over 2.5 Goals in the Game
October 19, 2017
Recommended bet: Perth Glory to Win & Over 2.5 Goals @ 21/20 (2.05) with Centrebet
Perth Glory play host to the Central Coast Mariners at the nib Stadium on Sunday, with both teams still searching for their first league wins of the campaign going into Round 3 of matches.
Perth Glory started the season with a 2-1 defeat at the Western Sydney Wanderers, but then claimed a point with a 2-2 draw away to the Newcastle Jets. Adam Taggart scored both goals for Glory away to the Jets, including a stoppage-time equalizer.
Last season Glory were great going forward, but porous at the back. There is little indication that we should expect anything very different this term given early performances and the personnel at the club.
Central Coast Mariners have faced the same two opponents as Glory to date. To their credit, the Mariners did bounce back from a disastrous opening day 5-1 home defeat to the Jets by securing a 2-2 draw away to the Wanderers last week, although it was a game in which they twice led.
In the three league meetings between the teams last season, it was surprisingly the Mariners who had much the better of things. After a 3-3 draw at the nib Stadium just over a year ago, in which the Mariners battled back from being 3-0 down at the interval to secure a point, they then went on to record consecutive 2-0 wins at Central Coast Stadium.
After several seasons in the doldrums, there are signs of life for Paul Okon’s new look Mariners. The problem is that success is unlikely to happen overnight and Perth will probably have too much attacking talent for them to cope with.
As one would expect, Perth Glory are strongly fancied to win this game, with a best price of 7/10 (1.70) currently on offer. However, given their aforementioned attacking prowess combined with their defensive frailties, a better value bet could be to back them to secure the victory along with ‘Over 2.5 Goals’ in the match. That’s on offer at odds of 21/20 (2.05) with Australian bookmakers Centrebet, which looks a reasonable enough price.
