Last season’s A-League runner-up, Melbourne Victory, are still in hunt for their first win of the campaign, hosting the Western Sydney Wanderers.

Melbourne Victory entertain Western Sydney Wanderers at the Etihad Stadium on Monday evening, with last season’s A-League runner-up still seeking their first win of the campaign.

With just two draws from their opening four matches, Victory are already in danger of losing touch with the leading clubs.  Kevin Muscat’s charges could only muster a somewhat fortunate point at Central Coast Mariners last week, with Dutch striker Leroy George bagging the equalizer in a 1-1 draw.

It’s been a solid start for the Wanderers, particularly when taking into account the untimely departure of head coach Tony Popovic on the eve of the new season.  They are yet to taste defeat in the A-League this season, although three of their four games have ended as draws.  Last weekend Wanderers also had to settle for a 1-1 draw on the road, with Mark Bridge giving them the lead with an excellent strike before Newcastle Jets came back to claim a point.

The game against the Jets was to be the last in charge for caretaker boss Hayden Foxe and the trip to Victory will be the first at the helm for Josep Gombau, who has now been named as the full-time successor to Popovic.

Recent form certainly favours Victory in the head-to-head meetings between these teams, with the Wanderers winning just one of the last 11 matches between the two teams.  Wanderers haven’t even scored against Victory in any of their last four games.  Last season resulted in a couple of 3-0 wins for Victory (both home and away), before Wanderers secured a goalless draw at the ANZ Stadium in April.

As against the Mariners, Victory will again be missing their veteran talismanic striker Besart Berisha as he serves the second game of a two-match suspension related to an incident with a match official late in the first half of the recent match against Adelaide United.

That’s a definite blow to the hosts, but they have enough quality in their squad to start climbing the table and at 7/5 (2.40) with Centrebet, they look a decent value A-League bet to pick up a first win of the season against the Wanderers.
