A-league 2nd place Melbourne Victory square up against Perth Glory in a game that can affect the race for the second automatic Finals Series semi-final spot.

Second-in-the table Melbourne Victory play Perth Glory at AAMI Park on Saturday in a game that could yet have a bearing on the race for the second automatic Finals Series semi-final spot.

A 1-0 defeat in the Big Blue at Allianz Stadium to table-topping Sydney FC last week realistically ended Victory’s already remote hopes of winning the A-League Premiers’ Plate, but they are still well on course to claim the other automatic Finals Series semi-final spot as things stand.

For Glory, anything less than a win at AAMI Park would end their chances of claiming a top two finish, with a defeat making it mathematically impossible.  They twice fought back from a two-goal deficit in securing a 3-3 draw at Wellington Phoenix last time out, but it still left Kenny Lowe’s men 10-points adrift of Victory with just five games remaining.

On the plus side, Glory’s place in the Elimination finals is almost assured, with them having what should be an insurmountable nine-point cushion over Wellington Phoenix down in seventh position.

These are also two of the highest scoring teams in the A-League this term, with only Sydney having found the back of the net more often.  Glory’s main problem has been that they’ve also leaked goals at a fairly alarming rate too, having conceded 40 in 22 games – only lowly Central Coast Mariners have a worse record.

Victory have an impressive home record, with eight wins and just two losses from 11 games in front of their own fans.  By comparison, although Glory’s current form is impressive with just one defeat in their last 11 league games, they’ve only won twice on the road in 11 matches this term.

It would all seem to point to this being a home win in a match that should also feature a few goals.  There’s no great pressure on either team going into the game, so that should also make for a fairly open encounter.

That being the case, backing a Melbourne Victory win with Both Teams To Score (BTTS) at 11/5 (3.20) with Sportsbet looks worth a punt in this one.
