Mourayan wins the 2013 Sydney Cup under the ride of Hugh Bowman
Jockey Hugh Bowman continued his scintilating form at the autumn carnival on Sydney Cup day by landing a Group One double at Randwick race course.

Following his success in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes with Reliable Man earlier on the card, he put in a patient ride aboard Mourayan to land The Sydney Cup for owner Lloyd Williams, adding to the family’s win with Gallic in 2007. Top weight for the race with 58kg, Mourayan became the first horse to triumph carrying over 57kg since dual winner Tie The Knot in 1999.

Yesterdays double caps an amazing autumn for Bowman who landed a Group 1 win on Shoot Out in the Chipping Norton Stakes last month as well as two successes at Rosehill Gardens with Fiveandahalfstar in The BMW and Norzita in the Vinery Stud Stakes.

Pre-race favourite Kellini was heavily backed at $2.60 but faded in the final stages to finish an eventual sixth in front of Maluckyday while the winner Mouryan ($12) was chased home by the Walter McShane trained Norsqui ($21). Aliyana Tilde ($16) completed the top three of a fantastic feature race at Randwick with Blood Brutha in fourth and Macedonian in fifth.

Kellini is now out to 26.00 for October’s Caulfield Cup with Mouryan available at the same price with Sportsbet for The Melbourne cup in November. However under the guidance of Hugh Bowman, Fiveandahalfstar could represent the best value come October 19th and is available at 11.00 with the same bookmaker.
