2013 Doomben Cup Report

Leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller has continued his winning form in Brisbane by winning The Group One Doomben Cup with Beaten Up

Beaten Up finished in front of stablemate Foreteller to give Chris Waller another Group One win in the Doomben Cup

Leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller has continued his winning form in Brisbane by winning The Group One Doomben Cup with Beaten Up.

Leith Innes got the ride when Waller decided to bypass a listed race on Friday and the European Import had no trouble in upstaging stablmate Foreteller who had been heavily backed for the 2020 meter showpiece.

Manighar looked to have a promenant position in the race until Beaten Up (9.00) emerged from the pack in the straight and gave Waller his seventh Group One win of the season with Foreteller (4.00) a 3/4 length runner-up and Secret Admirer (15.00) in third.

Secret Admirer’s trainer Graham Begg confirmed shortly after the race the dual Group One winner had been retired while Peter Moody was left disappointed with how easily Manighar’s lead was overhauled and the failure to make an impression by Light’s of Heaven (4.20).

Waller now has two wins in the Doomben Cup following success in 2010 with Metal Bender and may aim Beaten Up at the Cox Plate in the Spring with Sportingbet currently offering odds of 35.00 for the four-year-old.
