One of the highlights of the UK and Irish Horse Racing calendar, this year’s Cheltenham Festival is expected to be attended by over 230,000 racing fans before Friday brings the event to a close for another 12 months.

Leading Cheltenham jockey Ruby Walsh will return to the festival with 38 career victories already under his belt, while successful trainer Nicky Henderson is sure to add to his impressive haul of 50 wins at the festival already.

A total of 27 races will take place during the meeting, with the going good to soft at the start of the festival – in spite of one of the wettest Gloucestershire winters on record. The pre-festival conditions are a marked improvement on last year, when there was a delay to the racing due to snow and freezing temperatures.

With feature races spread out across the festival, all of the action gears up to Friday’s blue riband event, the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Defending champion Bobs Worth – trained by Henderson – will look to make it back-to-back wins, after romping home clear in last year’s race.
